The Soft Edge chair from HAY, as its name suggests, features a pleasant, rounded design: the edges of the backrest and seat curve back eliminating any sharp edges and corners. When creating the chair, design studio Iskos-Berlin utilized the latest innovations in moulded plywood that allow new three-dimensional forms and reduced consumption of natural resources. The result is Soft Edge, a lightweight and stackable chair that is well suited for homes and public spaces alike. In 2021, HAY renewed the surface treatments of its wood furniture by replacing their paints and lacquers with more environmentally friendly, water-based alternatives. Please note that due to this, natural wood furniture now comes with only one lacquer option instead of the previous two: the new water-based lacquer is glossier than the matte lacquer previously used, but slightly more matte than HAY’s previous clear lacquer. |

Copenhagen based Iskos-Berlin is a partnership between the designers Boris Berlin and Aleksej Iskos. Founded in 2010, Iskos-Berlin works in furniture design and also industrial and graphic design. The creative duo experiments with new techniques and materials to see what kind of an impact they have on everyday objects.
